Program by Dr. Greger at Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole, MA, July,
2004:
Learn all about making the transition to a healthy, animal-friendly diet
on Saturday, July 31, 2004, 7:30 p.m, at Fisher House of the Church of the
Messiah, 13 Church St., Woods Hole, MA. Dr. Michael H. Greger, M.D.
will present a talk entitled Animal Ethics and the Plant Based Diet with
animal-friendly (vegan) refreshments served. See Readings link above
for resources.
Dr. Greger is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Agriculture
and Tufts University School of Medicine, specializing in nutrition, and
is a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He serves
as Chief Medical Investigator for Farm Sanctuary, Watkins Glen, NY, and
BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) Coordinator for the Organic Consumers
Association.
Prior to moving to the Falmouth area this spring he has taught extensively
in colleges and universities and is a popular speaker at conferences dealing
with animal welfare, human diet and health. Combining science and cooking,
he has earned accolades as "most articulate and entertaining medical
speaker" in the field of plant based nutrition, "a joy to listen
to and to learn from."
Like many young people today, Dr. Greger became interested in the human-nonhuman
animal relationship while in high school. He became involved in various
areas of animal advocacy, including concerns about animals in commercial
product testing, wild animals in circuses, and captive-raised animals for
human consumption. He also chose then to become a full vegetarian (using
no animal products whatsoever).
In June Dr. Greger completed a study of the history and health consequences
of fad diets. See Carbophobia: The Scary Truth about America's Low-Carb
Craze published by Lantern Books.
Dr. Greger's lectures and teaching programs on DVD include Maximum Nutrition:
Transitioning Towards the Plant Based Diet; Stopping Cancer Before It Starts:
Cancer-Proofing Your Body with Plant Superfoods; and Mad Cow USA: Plague
of the 21st Century? The DVDs are available in Falmouth, MA at Vital Nutrition,
95B Davis Straits (behind Jack Conway Realty).
